Alanis Nadine Morissette known as Alanis Morissette is a musician and actress from Canada. She was born on June 1 of 1974 in Ottawa, the Capital city of Canada. After the sell of over 60 million albums worldwide she became one of the most successful female artists of all time. Alanis was on the top of Billboard 200 chart for the album 'Under Rug Swept' released in February 26, 2002.

Alanis is best known for her confessional lyrics and a layered rock-influenced sound. She learned to play the piano at her age of 6 and composing at seven. She wrote her first songs at nine. Alanis made her debut in acting with a Canadian comedy series 'You can't do tha' at her age of 10. She also learned guitar at age 21. To build a strong career, she moved to Toronto at age 18 and started to work with several musicians and songwriters, but the collaborations didn't work. In 1994 she met producer and songwriter Glen Ballard, who had already worked with many artists, including Aretha Franklin, Michael Jackson and Barbra Streisand. Then she moved to LA at age 19.

 

There a big turn came on June 13th 1995 when 'Jagged Little Pill' was released by Madonna's Maverick Records. It was sold about 30 million copies around the world, turning into the highest selling female album and the 3rd highest selling album of all times and remains the best-selling debut album by a female artist in the U.S. It is the highest selling debut album worldwide in music history and established her as one of alternative rock’s foremost female vocalists of the 1990s. Morissette's subsequent five studio albums have all included a series of chart-topping singles. Her most recent release, "Flavors of Entanglement", was released in June 2008 and debuted in the U.S. in the Top 10 on Billboard's Top 200 album chart.

 

Alanis is a feminist and never been apologetic about this, but rather deeply passionate. To her feminism is a mandatory link in a chain toward wholeness, cohesion, maturation and functionality. She believes that the definition of feminism needs some refocusing, redefining and updating for this modern time, and for this new generation, and that the movement deserves a reorienting, intentionality and re-envisioning for what is possible and how to get there. She thought the world needs a revolution to the feminist revolution.

Alanis was born to Alan Richard Morissette and Georgia Mary Ann Feuerstein. His father was Canadian and Mother was Hungarian. She has a Twin brother named Wade and an older brother Chad. She is 5 feet and 4 inchs high.

Works

Alanis Released two albums as a dance-pop singer in Canada, 'Alanis' in 1991 and 'Now Is The Time' in 1992. In 1986 Alanis made a single called Fate Stay With Me (b-side: Find The Right Man). Alanis had found an autobiographical, extremely personal way to write songs.

Morissette also has an acting career in television and movies. She acted in 'Sex and the City' in 1998 and 'Curb Your Enthusiasm' in 2000, along with a three-episode arc on Nip/Tuck in 2003 .

Alanis attended Glebe Collegiate Institute in Ottawa, Canada.
